9-26-19 grothman says trump won’t be impeached

todaySeptember 26, 2019

Wisconsin’s congressional delegation is split along party lines on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s decision to launch an impeachment inquiry against president Donald Trump.   The probe focuses on whether Trump abused his presidential powers and sought help from a foreign government to undermine Democratic foe Joe Biden and help his own re-election effort.  Republican congressman, Glenn Grothman, says there’s nothing in the transcript of a call between Trump and the president of Ukraine that indicates the president did anything wrong.  “It’s disappointing, but I can’t say horribly surprising,”  Grothman told WFDL news.  “Ever since he’s (Trump) been elected it seems to be the major goal, not of every Democrat, but of the vast majority of Democrats to try to embarrass him, investigate him.   I think this is premature,”  Grothman said.  “I think they can do more investigations first.”  Trump has sought to implicate Biden and his son in the kind of corruption that has plagued Ukraine, although there has been no evidence of wrongdoing by either the former vice president or his son.  None of Wisconsin’s four congressional Republicans have said they support impeachment.   Democratic U.S. Representative Ron Kind says he supports investigating a whistleblower’s complaint about the Trump phone call, but stopped short of saying he supports impeachment..  Wisconsin’s two other Democratic members of congress, Gwen Moore and Mark Pocan, have long backed impeachment.
