Fond du Lac residents have an opportunity to get rid of old, no longer needed household hazardous waste items. The city of Fond du Lac is partnering with Veolia Environmental Services for a one-time free household hazardous waste disposal. Fond du Lac residents can drop off acceptable items at the city garage on Doty Street from 2pm to 6pm Tuesday October 1. Public Works director Jordan Skiff says certain products are unacceptable. Unacceptable items include propane cylinders, radioactives, explosives, ammunition, biological and medical and commercial wastes and latex paint. You can toss latex paint the garbage.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
