Street maintenance projects are the big ticket items for next year in Waupun’s five year capital improvement plan. The plan was the focus of a special Waupun Common Council meeting last week. Waupun city administrator Kathy Schlieve tells WFDL news says the goal is to minimize the impact on the tax levy, while continuing the maintain the city’s infrastructure. “We did work with our department heads over the last month or so to get roughly a $115,000 reduction in capital requests for 202,” Schlieve told WFDL news. In the proposed 2020 budget $240,000 is included for streets, $175,000 for recreation including ADA upgrades at Veterans Memorial Park, canoe and kayak launches, tennis court resurfacing at West End Park and $25,000 to paint the city pool surface. The council will discuss the budget at their October 8 meeting. A public hearing is scheduled for November 12 followed by budget adoption.
