Two duck hunters who became disoriented in the Eldorado Marsh were rescued with the help of a drone and a DNR warden in a kayak. The hunters from Appleton and Neenah called the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office Thursday morning to report they were lost. Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Chris Dobyns says the hunters were located using GPS coordinates and a Fond du Lac Police drone unit. The hunters followed the drone back to the area they accessed their hunting location from. They then followed a DNR warden in a kayak back to the launch area off Marsh Road. It took approximately five hours to get back to the launch safely. Dobyns says the hunters were familiar with the marsh but high winds caused floating cattail bogs to blow around changing the look of the marsh resulting in the hunters becoming disoriented. The Sheriff’s Office says Eldorado Marsh water levels are extremely high will the recent rainfall and those using the marsh should use extreme caution.
