The Fond du Lac Public Works director says in many ways Fond du Lac “dodged a bullet” during this week’s flooding rain. Jordan Skiff says the city bypassed the sanitary sewer system at several locations in the city in an effort to prevent basement back-ups. “Seven locations of bypassing. The second area was the Wastewater Treatment plant itself. We started blending partially treated wastewater with fully treated wastewater before it went out into Lake Winnebago,” Skiff told WFDL news. Skiff says several streets in the city flooded, but the water quickly receded. Fruth Field was covered in water Wednesday morning.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
