10-14-19 gas leak quickly repaired at waupun memorial hospital

A small gas leak at Waupun Memorial Hospital was quickly repaired over the weekend without having to evacuate any patients.    Waupun Fire Chief B.J. DeMaa told WFDL news fire crews were called Sunday morning for a report of an alarm sounding in the boiler room at Waupun Memorial Hospital.  DeMaa says patients were not in any danger and the hospital was not evacuated.   Fire crews were on the scene for a couple of hours.

10-14-19 man charged in sex sting after walking hundreds of miles to fox valley

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A 32-year-old faces federal charges alleging he walked hundreds of miles from central Indiana to Wisconsin to have sex with someone he thought was a 14-year-old girl.    A Department of Justice statement Friday as says the person posing as a girl named "Kylee" was a sheriff's deputy working with the FBI in a sting.  It says Tommy Lee Jenkins, of Whitestown, Indiana, began communicating online on Oct. MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources officials say the Trump administration's proposed rewrite of lead contamination rules isn't good enough.  U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Andrew Wheeler announced in Green Bay on Thursday that the chances will require water systems to test lead levels at schools and child care facilities, require officials to identify areas with the worst contamination and toughen procedures for sampling tap water.  Conservation groups have […]

10-14-19 uw regents-free speech policy

The University of Wisconsin System regents have authorized staff to begin drafting formal language implementing a Republican-backed plan to punish students who disrupt others' free speech rights.  The regents in 2017 adopted a Republican-backed policy declaring students who twice disrupt others' free speech would be suspended for at least a semester. 10-12-19 wi youth prison conditions improving

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A court-appointed observer says conditions at Wisconsin's troubled youth prison are improving.  Attorney Teresa Abreau has been monitoring the prison outside Irma since January. A federal judge appointed her to the position after the state settled an American Civil Liberties lawsuit alleging conditions were so deplorable that they amounted to cruel and unusual punishment.   Abreau filed a report Thursday detailing a September visit to the prison.   She […]

10-12-19 oshkosh deaths investigated

OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — Oshkosh police are investigating the deaths of two people.  Officers were sent to a home shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday on a weapons complaint. They found the bodies of a man and woman in the residence.  Police say the two knew each other and that it appears to be an isolated incident.
