The Fond du Lac Salvation Army Warming Shelter is officially open for the winter season. The shelter opened Friday evening for its first night of operation this season. Social Service Director Ron Jacobson says last year the shelter was open 151 nights serving 144 adults. Clients were fed over four thousand meals and more than a thousand loads of laundry were done for clients. The shelter will be open through April 1.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
