11-5-19 fdl city council president-lakeside park pavilion

todayNovember 5, 2019

The Fond du Lac city council president says funding for a new Lakeside Park pavilion on the site of the existing pavilion should stay in the city budget.  Council president Brian Kolstad made the comments following a council meeting earlier this month when fellow councilmember Ben Giles, and a handful of residents asked the council to delay action on the project.   “At this point I don’t think it would be appropriate to pull it from the budget,”  Kolstad told WFDL news.  “Right now, as it stands, we are going forward,”   Kolstad told WFDL news.   Giles said unnamed investors had approached  him with plans to build a new pavilion, restaurant and amphitheatre on park land at the end of North Main Street.    That proposal was rejected by the council three years ago because of the loss of park green space and Kolstad says he is still concerned about developing that area.  “For me when I come into the park I want to see greenspace.  Changing that landscape would be a mistake in my opinion,”  Kolstad said.    Kolstad says he thinks the council can still move forward with the pavilion as proposed and still look at an amphitheater as well.
