11-6-19 fdl salvation army warming shelter

todayNovember 6, 2019

The Fond du Lac Salvation Army Warming Shelter has only been open for a few days and already the beds are starting to fill up.   Salvation Army Social Services director Ron Jacobson says ten people used the shelter Friday and Saturday night and 15 people on Sunday.   Jacobson says last year the shelter was open 151 nights, serving 144 adults.  Jacobson says mental health issues and alcohol and drug addiction are major factors in homelessness in Fond du Lac.  “They get a job and then within a week or so they slip back into their addictions,”  Jacobson told WFDL news.  “…so they’re homeless again.  That’s one thing we really want to advocate for is more mental health services, alcohol and drug addiction services in Fond du Lac.”
