Fond du Lac police are investigating if a high speed chase in the city this week is related to an assault and shooting incident last month. Police say a suspect vehicle was involved in a short chase Monday night in the area of Merrill and National Avenues with speeds up to 70 miles an hour before the chase was called off. Police say the vehicle matched the description of a vehicle seen leaving an altercation last month in the area of Third and Ellis Streets where gunshots were allegedly fired.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
