The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office says the death of an elderly Fond du Lac man following a traffic crash Monday evening on Highway 23 will probably not be ruled a traffic fatality. Sheriff’s captain Bill Tadych says it appears that 83 year old Denis Schmitz died from a medical condition and not as a result of the crash when his vehicle veered off the highway striking a parked vehicle in a private driveway on Townline Road.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
