A Dodge County man convicted of physically assaulting his wife and threatening law enforcement officers is going to prison. Dodge County Circuit judge Steven Bauer sentenced 35 year old Darren Kemppainen to three years in prison and eight months of extended supervision. He also received a three-year term of probation. Kemppainen was arrested in November 2018 following a domestic incident at a Clyman residence. According to a criminal complaint Kemppainen’s wife had visible bruising and swelling under her left eye. Officers say Kemppainen was intoxicated and made multiple comments to both his wife and officers, threatening their lives and safety.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
