The Fond du Lac Public Works director says clean-up of a contaminated property along the east branch of the Fond du Lac River could begin next fall. A new report shows that clean-up of the former QuicFrez site is estimated at $1.3 million. Public Works director Jordan Skiff says the remedial action report recommends removal of contaminated materials and planting of trees to draw contaminants out of the soil. Skiff says he supports the recommendations. “Partial source removal. Groundwater, sediment, gravel, boulder, things like that,” Skiff told WFDL news. “The second part of that would be phytoremediation. Basically the planting of specific types of trees that are good at uptaking some of the contamination from the soil.” Groundwater samples from July 2018 showed volatile chemical compounds at all eight groundwater monitoring wells. Skiff says at this point he is not sure if there would be any DNR funding for the project. He says if work is authorized it could begin next fall.
