A Wisconsin Appeals Court has ruled that a convicted child sex offender from Racine County cannot be placed in Fond du Lac County. The District Two Court of Appeals determined that Preston Rintamaki’s petition for supervised release was still pending prior to a Racine judge’s order to place Rintamaki at a town of Eldorado residence in November 2018. District Attorney Eric Toney says the effect of the decision is that Wisconsin Act 184 applies to Rintamaki, meaning he must be placed in Racine County and cannot be placed in Fond du Lac County. “We felt the legal position we took was correct and we’re pleased the Court of Appeals agreed with that,” Toney told WFDL news. Rintamaki had previously been civilly committed as a chapter 980 violent sex offender in Racine County and was petitioning for supervised release from the Department of Health Services Sand Ridge Secure Treatment Center.
