12-5-19 fdl high school principal says his “heart goes out” to communities involved in school shootings

todayDecember 5, 2019

The Fond du Lac High School principal says his heart goes out to the Wisconsin families and communities  involved in school shooting incidents this week.   A school resource officer shot a student armed with a pellet gun at Waukesha South High School Monday and a resource officer at Oshkosh West High School shot a student who attacked him with a sharp object Tuesday.  Fond du Lac High School principal Matt Steinbarth says the incidents show that dangerous situations can happen anywhere and that schools need to be prepared for  threats.  “In both situations it obviously hits close to home as you hear schools in Wisconsin dealing with the tragedy that has occured,”  Steinbarth told WFDL news.  “For ourselves at Fond du Lac its a time where we talk with staff and students a little bit more about what we expect at school and that if they hear anything that they need to let someone know right away so that those things do not occur at our school as well.”  State superintendent of Public Instruction, Carolyn Stanford Taylor says the Wisconsin Safe and Healthy Schools Center is providing whatever resources they can to the Oshkosh Area School District and surrounding area.   Taylor says schools must be safe environments for students and staff.
