Wisconsin’s Democratic governor, Tony Evers, says the state must “step up and help” following shootings a day apart at two high schools in the state. Evers says he is confident that Republicans who control the Legislature will work with him on increasing funding for mental health services in schools. Republican Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke tweeted that Evers’ comments were “great news!” Assembly Speaker Robin Vos also says it is good that Evers is focusing on what Vos calls the “real problem.”

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
