Investigators say a Fond du Lac man arrested for starting a fire in a vacant house this week, had started fires in his apartment the day before. Fond du Lac Firefighters were called to the vacant house on Allen Street Monday afternoon where they quickly extinguished a fire that had been set to some cardboard boxes inside the building. Division Chief of Fire Prevention Troy Haase tells WFDL news the day before, firefighters were called to the man’s apartment at 70 East Merrill Avenue to extinguish some items that had been set on fire in the basement, and a fire in the area of the stove. “There were multiple small fires started in that basement and there was another small fire, or more of a heating issue on the stove in the apartment,” Haase said. Haase says from a public safety standpoint it’s a good thing that the individual is in custody. Meanwhile police are continuing their investigation into an unrelated fire that destroyed a vacant house on Arndt Street over the weekend. Investigators believe that fire was intentionally set.
