The cause of a fire that destroyed a house in the town of Ripon remains under investigation. Firefighters from several area departments helped battle the blaze at the Charles and Jacqueline Nelson residence on Cork Road Friday afternoon. Through investigation deputies learned that an employee of the property was outside and observed flames coming from the area around the chimney. The employee was then able to
alert the occupants of the residence and everyone was able to get out of the residence safely. The residence is considered to be a complete loss. Nobody was injured in the fire.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
