The Fond du Lac Salvation Army is asking the community to make last minute donations to put the Red Kettle fundraising campaign over the top. The campaign is closing in on it’s $170,000 goal. To help fill the kettles, West Shore Group, Osborn & Son Trucking, Rotary and The family of John Pelletier will match up to $40,000 of donations received to the Red Kettle Campaign through December 24. Salvation Army Social Services director Ron Jacobson says you may drop donations directly into kettles located at Fleet Farm, Walgreens, Pick ‘n Save , Piggly Wiggly, Walmart, Backyard Grill, Kristmas Kringle Shop, Schreiner’s and The Salvation Army office at 237 N. Macy Street. Jacobson says the donations are greatly needed for a variety of services. “Today we’ve housed almost 40 people in our warming shelter, about ten showers were taken, we were helping two families with rent assistance so they could keep their house, utility assistance so their house stays warm, we have appointments for people to get clothing, and we’re helping somebody get work boots so they can become employed. That’s just today,” Jacobson told WFDL news. Meanwhile, the Salvation Army’s 129th annual Christmas Toy distribution at the Fairgrounds last week distributed toys and food to almost 500 Fond du Lac area households.
