As part of state and national efforts to help keep roadways safe for all travelers, Fond du Lac County area Law Enforcement made 20 OWI arrests during the holiday “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign between December 13, 2019 and New Year’s Day. While the focus of the initiative was to deter impaired driving, officers also issued citations and made arrests during traffic stops for the following:
320 speeding violations
72 operating after revocation or suspension violations
11 traffic sign or traffic light violations
6 safety belt violations
5 drug arrests
3 felony arrests
2 Fleeing/Eluding an officer and 1 Possession of Heroin with intent to deliver
2 warrant arrests
“Our 2020 New Year’s resolution is for everyone to drive safely and responsibly during every trip,” Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt said. “Thanks for all you do to keep our roadways and communities safe.”

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
