One of the nation’s largest dairy cooperatives is praising a new trade deal between the United States and China. Wisconsin-based Edge Dairy Farmer Cooperative spokesman, Aaron Stauffacher, tells WFDL news the deal is a positive step for Wisconsin dairy farmers. Stauffacher says within the next few years China will surpass the United States to become the world’s largest dairy market. Stauffacher says Edge Dairy hopes subsequent agreements address removing retaliatory tariffs China has placed on U.S. dairy products.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
