The executive director of the government watchdog group Common Cause in Wisconsin says he’s pleased Wisconsin governor Tony Evers has signed an order creating a nonpartisan redistricting commission. Jay Heck says the power to redistrict should be taken away from the legislature. Heck says he’s not surprised that Republican legislative leaders are opposed. Responding to Assembly speaker Robin Vos who said Evers’ order was a “fake, phony, partisan process,” Heck says that’s the pot calling the kettle black. “That’s not surprising coming from the primary architect of a fake, phony, partisan process,” Heck said.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
