A National Weather Service meteorologist says the below freezing temperatures this week will help with ice buildup on Lake Winnebago leading up to this weekend’s sturgeon spearing season. But meteorologist Andy Boxel says it may be too late when it comes to making sure the lake ice is in good shape after several days of unseasonably mild temperatures. “It’s tough to say how things are going to play out in terms of the ice, but as far as temperatures it looks like highs will be right around freezing, low temperatures getting down to the mid to upper teens,” Boxel told WFDL news. “…certainly cold enough to get a little bit of additional ice build up but it could be too little too late.” Boxel says the problem is we haven’t had an extended stretch of bitter cold weather this winter.
