The Fond du Lac County Conservationist says clean-up following manure run-off from a town of Calumet farm is expected to take a while. The runoff at the Loron Bock farm near Artesia Beach Road and Highway 151 was reported last week. County Conservationist Paul Tollard says his office and the DNR are working with the farmer to monitor the cleanup. Tollard says the fields are within a thousand feet of Lake Winnebago and farmers are required to follow what’s called a nutrient management plan. Tollard says in this case it appears the farmer should not have been spreading the manure at the rate it was spread. “It doesn’t mean they can’t apply in the winter but there are certain things that need to be done if they’re going to do that and that certainly didn’t happen there,” Tollard told WFDL news. Tollard says so far neighbors have not reported any problems with their water wells. However Tollard says neighbors should continue to monitor their wells and report any changes in taste, smell and color.
