The partisan discord in Washington was on vivid display this week as the first president to campaign for reelection after being impeached vigorously made his case for another term. President Donald Trump used his State of the Union address to extol a “Great American Comeback” on his watch. Republican congressman Glenn Grothman says he was impressed. “I think it was good, he went through all the successes he had,” Grothman told WFDL news. Grothman says he was glad the president focused on more than just the economy. Retired Ripon College political scientist Marty Farrell says Trump told a story that he was able to turn the country around after getting elected. “Whatever else you think of Donald Trump he tells a good story. He does have background in television and so he spins a narrative and the narrative is the country was falling apart, everything was terrible, and then Donald Trump became president, turned everything around.” Republican legislators chanted “Four More Years” and Farrell says the Democratic presidential candidates will now have to respond.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
