The Fond du lac County Sheriff’s Office Water Patrol and Ice Rescue team is on stand-by this weekend for the opening of the sturgeon spearing season. Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says sturgeon spearers need to do their homework on the ice conditions in a particular area of the lake before heading out. Waldschmidt says its very important that anyone out on the lake wear a life jacket at all times. Waldschmidt says above all, don’t take risks.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
