A jury trial is scheduled for a former Waldo man who faces the possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison if convicted of sexually assaulting a child. A three day jury trial is scheduled to begin May 5 for 28 year old David Duarte Alvarez on eight counts of first degree child sex assault and three counts of child enticement. A plea and sentencing hearing is scheduled for March 13. He is accused of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 13 multiple times at a Fond du Lac residence. He is being held in jail on $100,000 cash bond.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
