Republican state representative Joan Ballweg is hitting the ground running in her bid for the state senate. Shortly after longtime state senator Luther Olsen announced this week he was not running for re-election, Ballweg said she would be running for his seat this fall. “Just an opportunity to work in the other house to try to continue the good efforts in moving things forward,” Ballweg told WFDL news. Ballweg says she is running on a track record of accomplishments and experience. Ballweg says the state senate will have many new faces next year with Olsen leaving, and the senate majority leader Scott Fitzgerald and senator Tom Tiffany both running for congress. on the Democratic side senators Dave Hansen and Mark Miller have announced they are not running for re-election.
