2-27-20 evers vetoes republican income tax cut plan

todayFebruary 27, 2020

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Democratic Gov. Tony Evers has vetoed a Republican-authored $250 million income tax cut bill. Evers vetoed the bill Wednesday at an elementary school in Wauwatosa, arguing that the Legislature should instead back his plan to spend more on education. Evers had proposed spending $250 million on K-12 schools, with $130 million to reduce property taxes, but Republicans ignored his proposal. He called on Republicans to compromise with him. But Republican Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald said there is no time for compromise. He said Evers has a “soft spot” for more school funding, calling it his “Achilles heel.”
