A legislative committee has rejected a plan to build new institutions to replace Wisconsin's troubled youth prison. Lawmakers have voted to close the institution outside Irma by July 1, 2021, and replace it with new state prisons and smaller county-run facilities. Assembly Republicans have approved a bill that would create protocols for submitting and tracking untested sexual assault evidence kits as well as require police to notify immigration officials of sexual assaults and allow student victims to enter school choice programs. The state Assembly has passed a bill that would make having sex with an animal a felony. Right now bestiality is a misdemeanor. The bill would create a new crime punishable by up to 12½ years in prison. 2-12-20 fire displaces nfdl residents

Nobody was injured in a fire that significantly damaged a North Fond du Lac.residence.  Firefighters were called to the scene yesterday on Maine Avenue.  A man who was home at the time was able to get out of the residence safely.  The fire apparently started on the kitchen stove.
