One person received minor injuries in a snowmobile crash on Lake Winnebago. It happened about 4:30pm Sunday about 50 yards from shore behind Sylvan Bay Road in the town of Calumet. Nobody was injured in a structure fire in the town of Calumet. Shortly before 9:30pm Saturday firefighters were called to the Calumet Town Dump on Schoenborn Road. The partially enclosed structure that houses a dumpster was destroyed. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
A major winter snowstorm dumped several inches of snow throughout Wisconsin Sunday resulting in slippery roads. National Weather Service meteorologist Paul Collar says seven to ten inches of snow and even more than that were reported in some areas. The sturgeon spearing season opened this weekend on the Lake Winnebago system with the DNR, local fishing clubs and area law enforcement warning sturgeon spearers to be extra careful on the ice.
