A retired Ripon College political scientist says following Super Tuesday, a resurgent Joe Biden has the momentum and the Democratic presidential race is a two man contest. Biden claimed nine Super Tuesday victories, revitalizing a presidential bid that was teetering on the edge of disaster just days earlier. Political scientist Marty Farrell says Biden’s surge underscores how many Democrats fear the prospect of a Sanders nomination. “A sign that Democrats in most states want to make sure that they have somebody that’s going to defeat Donald Trump,” Farrell said. Despite his recent success Biden has struggled to mobilize young voters and at times seems out of step with his party’s energized left flank. So what’s his biggest challenge moving forward? “Making sure he doesn’t alienate the Bernie Sanders’ folks,” Farrell said. “…somehow compete against Bernie Sanders but not alienate his supporters that they are going to really need in November in the general election. That’s the biggest challenge.”
