Fond du Lac police say an incident that prompted activation of the SWAT team actually turned out to be a custody issue. Shortly before midnight Thursday police responded to a residence on East Third Street at the request of a police department in Illinois for a man suspected in a non-custodial kidnapping of a five year old child who may be endangered because of a medical condition. Assistant police chief Steve Klein says a short time later Illinois police stated they no longer believed the child was in any danger. Klein says Illinois authorities said it was more of a custody issue than a kidnapping incident. Klein says the SWAT team was initially deployed based on the original seriousness of the call and criminal history of the suspect.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
