A spokesperson for the Wisconsin Cheesemakers Association says Wisconsin should be proud for it’s showing during last week’s World Championship Cheese contest. Three Wisconsin cheeses were finalists for the world’s best cheese, and Rebecca Sweeney says Wisconsin cheesemakers took home 45 gold medals. “Wisconsin has so much to be proud of. Twenty-six nations were represented in this contest and U.S. cheesemakers dominated,” Sweeney told WFDL news. “They earned 90 gold medals i nthe 132 contest classes and of those 90 medals Wisconsin came away with 45 of them.” The contest is the largest technical cheese, butter and yogurt competition in the world.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
