Fond du Lac’s Mercury Marine is responding to what they say are rumors and false information circulating on social media against the backdrop of the coronavirus. The rumors started circulating after a Merc employee tested positive for COVID-19. Merc spokesman Lee Gordon says all employees who worked in the vicinity of the individual were sent home immediately and continue to work at home. Gordon says at this time manufacturing facilities are still running. Mercury Marine has not shut down. He says Merc is also implementing additional programs to help hourly employees whoses jobs require them to be on-site to help them navigate issues and disruptions caused by the coronavirus.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
