Fond du Lac County residents appear to be heeding the warnings about social distancing and avoiding large gatherings. Only one of 59 Fond du Lac County residents tested positive for the coronavirus in the latest batch of tests conducted by state Health officials. Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says it’s great news but says residents need to continue to social distance, because health officials believe it is working. “This is absolutely great. You know we were just hoping as little as possible coming back,” Mueller told WFDL news. “It’s definately a relief for us.” Mueller says the person who tested positive had direct, close contact with an infected person from the Egyptian cruise. There are now 12 confirmed coronavirus cases in Fond du Lac County.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
