Fond du Lac’s Mercury Marine will shut down some of it’s operations beginning next week. Merc spokesman Lee Gordon says beginning Monday the company will suspend some of it’s operations for two to three weeks due to the coronavirus outbreak and to maintain the health and safety of Brunswick employees, its partners and providing service to its customers globally as its top priorities. Gordon says many of the distribution plants will continue to operate and salaried employees who are working from home will continue to do so. Last week all employees who were able to work from home were allowed to do so after an employee tested positive for the coronavirus. Gordon says no other employee has tested positive.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
