3-24-20 assembly corrections committee chair in contact with waupun prison following covid-19 case

todayMarch 24, 2020

The chairman of the Assembly Corrections committee says he is in contact with the Waupun prison and state Department of Corrections after a prison employee tested positive last week for COVID-19.   Republican state representative Michael Schraa says 18 inmates and a handful of prison staff had some contact with the infected person and are being quarantined.  “These 18 inmates are in a separate wing of the institution.  They are being quarantined.  I was initially told 11 Health Service Unit employees were sent home, but from what I’m finding out now I think the number is closer to three or four,”  Schraa told WFDL news.  Schraa says he is confident the prison has plans and protocol in place to prevent spread of the virus throughout the prison.
