The latest local unemployment rates before the coronavirus swept across the state show a dip in the unemployment rate. The city of Fond du Lac and Fond du Lac County’s unemployment rate dropped three tenths of a percent to 3.4 in February. The Dodge County jobless rate was 3.8 percent in February, down from 4.1 in January. The drop occurred before COVID-19 cases started to climb and before the governor issued his stay at home order, and closed all non-essential businesses.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
