4-22-20 coronavirus-the economy

todayApril 21, 2020

A retired Ripon College economics professor says after many weeks of lockdown questions remain how extending Wisconsin’s Safer at Home order will impact the state’s economy in the long term.    Economist Paul Schoofs  says danger is the  longer the shutdown continues, the  longer the economic scars and the slower the recovery.  “Two months is getting to be on the danger level there of really leading to a lot of businesses maybe going bankrupt and not able to return once we’re past the worst part of the health scare,”  Schoofs told WFDL news.  “A big factor will be how quickly this extra funding through the federal government gets out.”   Schoofs says the other question is how many people would actually go out to restaurants if they were reopened tomorrow?
