Nobody was injured in a fire that heavily damaged the second floor of a Fond du Lac duplex.   Firefighters were called to the scene at 22 East Seventh Street shortly before 12:30pm Thursday.  The occupant who escaped was alerted of the fire by a passing motorist who banged on the door to woke the resident.   Fire chief Pete O’Leary says there were flames shooting out of a second story window when firefighters arrived on the scene.  O’Leary says a pet dog died in the fire.  O’Leary says the cause of the fire remains under investigation. “The citizen who stopped and alerted the first floor resident of the fire is a hero, ”  O’Leary said. “His selfless actions undoubtedly changed the outcome for the resident inside.”
