The Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer says a warning from the director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of a potential second wave of the novel coronavirus is a reminder that preparation is essential. The CDC director said this week there’s a possibility that the assault of the virus next winter will actually be even more difficult than the one we just went through. Fond du lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says the second wave of pandemics are very often more severe than the first. “When you think about pandemics and the knowledge that we have, they usually always come in waves and unfortunately that second wave tends to be more severe than the first one that comes in,” Mueller told WFDL news. The CDC director said the second wave could be far more fatal than the current phase of the pandemic because it may overlap with the beginning of the flu season. Mueller says that’s why it’s important to be prepared. The first wave of COVID-19 has killed more than 50,000 people in the United States, including three people in Fond du Lac County. There are 68 positive cases of COVID-19 in Fond du Lac County.
