The director of the Mercury Marine National Walleye Fishing tournament says he hopes to know by the middle of May if the tournament will take place as scheduled in June. Ken Krueger says as of right now the tournament is still on for June 13 and 14 on the Lake Winnebago system. Krueger says it’s a huge tournament with up to 300 teams and 600 anglers. He says the challenge is developing a plan for when the anglers are bringing fish in to be weighed and then leaving the park. “Coming in it’s easier we can hold them up in the channel, have them stay in their boat,” Krueger told WFDL news. “Once they come through the weigh-in process of bringing their fish up to the stage we can have one guy taking the fish to put it on the scale, and it’s recorded on a computer in a trailer, we can have one guy in there, but then we need to make sure we can clear the guys out after they’re done weighing the fish.” The Wallleye Weekend festival which has run in conjunction with the fishing tournament has been postponed to a yet to be determined date in August.
