PORTAGE, Wis. (AP) — Sheriff’s officials say two prisoners have escaped from the state maximum-security prison in Portage. Residents in the area received automated phone calls about the prison escape about 6 a.m. Thursday and were urged to lock their doors. Fire Thursday destroyed a hay barn and chicken coup with 200 chickens in Fond du Lac County. A heat lamp in the chicken coup is believed to have started the fire on Hickory Road in the town of Rosendale. A pole barn that contained 200 hay bales, a skid loader, and the attached chicken coup with 200 chickens is a complete loss.
Nobody was injured in a fire that destroyed a car in Fond du Lac. Town of Fond du Lac firefighters were called to the scene on I-41 at Highway 151 Wednesday evening to extinguish the fire.
