5-7-20 reopening economy

todayMay 7, 2020

A retired Ripon College economist says depressing new death toll projections and infection data released this week raise questions about state’s that are moving ahead now to reopen the economy.   Economist Paul Schoofs says the question is whether shoppers fearful of being in public places bother to show up?  “It looks like for one thing it’s going to mean the increase in the rate of infections and deaths from the virus,”  Schoofs told WFDL news.  “…but it will also mean the slow, kind of creeping improvement in economic performance.   You’ve got those two forces unfortunately with some opposition between them, the health of the country and the health of the economy.”   Schoofs says it benefits Wisconsin to see what happens in other states that are reopening now.
