6-24-20 uw oshkosh chancellor goes “between the lines”

todayJune 23, 2020

The UW Oshkosh chancellor says students wouldn’t be allowed to return to the classroom this fall if school officials didn’t feel it was safe to do so.  Chancellor Andrew Leavitt announced earlier this month that UW Oshkosh will open its Oshkosh, Fond du Lac and Fox Cities campuses this fall.  “Very satisfying.  It was after a lot of work by a lot of people,”  Leavitt told AM 1170s Between the Lines program.  “A Recovery Task Force wrote a plan in 18 days.  A lot of people came together and now we are in implementation of those plans which will lead to the safe return of students to have campus-based experiences on all three of our campuses.”  Leavitt says the plan also outlines a way for living with COVID-19 on the campus.   “…we’ll also reserve an entire residence hall to be used for isolation and for quarantine as necessary so if students get sick we have a way to work with them on campus,”  Leavitt said.   Leavitt says no final decision has been made on college sports.   “There is a lot of uncertainty there because we’re still two and a half months out from beginning school, a lot can happen in that two and a half months.”
