The chairman of the Republican Party of Fond du Lac County says he is opposed to a recall effort that has been launched against Democratic governor Tony Evers. A Burlington woman started a petition drive over the weekend, setting off a 60 day countdown to gather nearly 670,000 signatures. Chairman of the Republican Party of Fond du Lac County Rohn Bishop told WFDL news his first concern is the woman who filed the petition doesn’t appear to have a history with Republican party politics or the conservative movement in Wisconsin. Bishop says his other concern is that it “makes Republicans look like hypocrites.” He says one of the reasons Republicans opposed the recall of governor Scott Walker is because of the belief that recalls should not be used for policy differences. Bishop says a recall also could give Democrats an advantage in a potentially close election in November, because Evers would be able to raise an unlimited amount of campaign funds while the petitions are being circulated.
