A Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s captain says it’s fortunate that nobody was hurt when a boat began taking on water on Lake Winnebago last weekend. Sheriff’s captain Bill Tadych says the 18 foot Seadoo Challenger speedboat encountered strong winds and high waves Saturday afternoon about a mile north of the lighthouse. Tadych says four people on the boat made the mistake of jumping in the water thinking it would prevent the boat from sinking. Four others stayed on the boat. “A lot of it was inexperience and when it does whip up like that, especially a northwest wind, that can be a pretty ferocious lake,” Tadych told WFDL news. “People need to, number one, get ahold of us and stay with the boat.” Fortunately all four were safely rescued from the water and the boat was towed back to shore.
