Former state representative and Fond du Lac city council president John Dobyns has died. Dobyns died August 28 after a long battle with liver disease. He was 76. Dobyns was a retired Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s detective when he was first elected to the Fond du Lac city council in 1990. He resigned his seat on council in 1993 to run for the state Assembly. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s Springs Academy and University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and served 26-years in law enforcement.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
