The Fond du Lac County Oral Health Program Coordinator says United Way funding is critical for a program that has helped thousands of children in the county for more than a decade. The United Way provides funding for the Health Department’s Save a Smile program for children 18 years old and younger. Oral Health Program Coordinator Sam Twohig says the program provides access to residents covered by medical assistance. Patients receive care from area dentists participating in the program. Since the Save a Smile program started more than a decade ago the program has helped more than 1,000 children a year with their basic dental needs. Twohig says the impact of oral health on your overall health is tremendous. The United Way is currently in the midst of it’s annual fund drive.
